I voted Constitution Party due to character issues of the two main candidates and policy issues with the other third party candidates. Trump voters criticized me because “Not voting for Trump is a vote for Hillary”. Clinton voters criticized me because “Not voting for Hillary is a vote for Trump”. Consequently, my single vote counted as voting for Castle, Trump, and Clinton simultaneously. #IWin

I do think that President Trump is who America needed, but not a candidate who met the minimum character requirements for Jeff Ross’s vote. (Writing “character requirements” made me think of twitter just now. Thinking of twitter made me think of President Trump. Thinking of President Trump made me look up his twitter. Scrolling down it made me discover First Lady Trump’s twitter. Looking at her twitter made me find out that February 17 was “Random Acts of Kindness Day”. February 17 was Saturday. All I remember doing on Saturday was the mini AuxCon. I wonder if that counts…)

Reading this thread made me look up what the “First Defenestration of Prague” was about. It was about religious protests between the Hussites and the Catholics in Bohemia (modern day Czech Republic) in 1419 (almost 600 years ago). The Hussites were frustrated with the Catholic church’s corruption and inequality. The Hussites were marching toward the New Town Hall in Prague when a rock was thrown out of the Hall at the leader of the group. Immediately the group went from an irritated parade to an irate mob and stormed the building, throwing several town officials out the upper window to their death. The King of Bohemia supposedly died from shock of hearing the news. The defenestration sparked the start of the Hussite Wars, which concluded in 1436.

Interestingly, it was the Second Defenestration of Prague in 1618 that caused the term “defenestration” to be coined. (Similar to how the term “World War” wasn’t really used until WWII.)

Also note that “defenestration” doesn’t actually require a person to die from being tossed out of a window, merely to be tossed out of a window. I found out that Abraham Lincoln and some other Illinois legislators in 1840 self-defenestrated (or autodefenestrated) to prevent a vote from taking place on a certain matter. It was a first-story window and his political opponents joked that he was so tall that he didn’t even have to jump down. His tactic didn’t work, though; the other party simply marked Lincoln and his comrades as “present” and proceeded with the vote as scheduled.

I believe I found out about the podcast from the Inner Tube and I listened to Episode 001 of the Aux Cable right after it released. I couldn’t stand it and stopped listening.

After some time, I wanted a new podcast to listen to and decided to re-visit the Aux Cable right after Episode 025 had been released, choosing to listen to the episodes with Chris Howard first. They sounded much better than I remembered Episode 001 being, but 024 was more enjoyable than 008, so I figured they were improving with practice. Consequently, I listened to the episodes 025 to 001 pretty much in reverse order and trained myself to enjoy the Aux Cable. I kept up to date after that, but I stayed away from the Not-Forum due to its complexity.

Then Episode 179 of the Inner Tube happened and I joined the Not-Forum to facilitate a Comment Kerfuffle. I became acclimated to the Not-Forum faster than I anticipated and stuck around.

I finally took time to read all of the writing on this thread. Part of me wants to hear the end of Kristen’s story, part of me doesn’t, since I’m not sure how she’ll wrap it up. I certainly hope that Brooke won the scholarship for her amazing poem! (The only reason she wouldn’t have won is that it wasn’t actually about distracted driving, but impaired driving. Nevertheless, it’s a must-read.)

The phrase “when you grow up” strikes a nerve with me, because there really isn’t a date when you can say “Today I am all grown up”; you never stop learning and growing, and occupations in modern western societies tend to be subject to frequent change.

Considering Josh’s comment, I would respond with “So what songs have you written or sung so far?” or “Which songs & songwriters have you studied?” To AP I would say “What stories have you written so far?” or “Which authors have you studied?” Don’t wait until you’re “all grown up” to practice and prepare for what you want to do with your life.

Like my grandma used to say, “Dream big because dreams are cheap.”

Sorry for the “rant”. I guess I used to think that being 20-something meant you were “all grown up”, but that isn’t actually the case…

There are so many hymns that I enjoy singing! My favorites right now are “To God Be the Glory” by Fanny Crosby, “Holy, Holy, Holy” by Reginald Heber, and Isaac Watt’s “Alas! and Did My Savior Bleed”. My grade school didn’t just require Scripture memorization, but also hymn memorization, so there are plenty of times that a hymn I haven’t looked at for years will suddenly just come out of me. Oftentimes, I’ll hear what I’m singing and suddenly realize the meaning of the depth of the words that I didn’t grasp when I was younger, giving me a whole new excuse to sing the hymn again. 🙂
