It’s official: Today is the day that Blimey Con 2018 begins.
I think it’s cool that today is 8-1-18 in America, written as 1-8-18 in some parts of the world.
She really would.
He really is.
I mean that Brooke hasn’t said anything about Phineas and Ferb in this thread, even though it’s part of Explosive Yeast’s bio. Usually she doesn’t pass up opportunities like that.
It’s supposedly less than tube weeks until the next “Inner Tube at Blimey Con” podcast episode releases, marking the one year anniversary of the Kerfuffle that brought me to the Not-Forum. I’m not sure if we’ve done a proper Kerfuffle since then.
I wasn’t sure whether to put this in the Cool Music thread or this one, but since its visuals are more entertaining than the audio, I’ll put it here:
If you watch the above video on YouTube rather than simply watching it on this page, you can see the livestream chat replay as well.
Ryan Matlock got married to Hannah, and the wedding was magnificent:
In line with the discussion on this thread and the current day in Aux Cable history, I present to you:
This parody can be best described as “State (Farm) of the Art”.
It really does.
Tube days until a certain event takes place…
I wonder if Ryan will be expecting something here in tube days or so…
I didn’t find a meme regarding PSAs, but I did find a PSA that deserves to be memed:
They happened.
In comment #42707, I meant 1:01:03 for the timestamp.
Hereâs a âRyan Matlock isnât releasing content right now, so hereâs the best current video regarding puns and holidays that I could find that also relates to the motivation discussion from earlier in this threadâ video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=plb_pbcslfw
#BringBackTheEntrePUNeuerAfterTheWeddingPlease
He did show up in the fancast, I’m pleased to report. His main segment started at 1:01:13, but you can also hear his voice in the intro and in the final saying of “Happy Ryan and Matthew Appreciation Station Day”.
My favorite hymn of today is Amazing Grace by John Newton. I’m actually surprised this hymn hasn’t been mentioned earlier in this thread.
I had a cool dream today: I was participating with one of my brothers in the NFL draft, as the people who would get to make the choices for the Green Bay Packers. As we were preparing, we ate doughnuts, and then we sang the hymn Amazing Grace, and I was brought to tears because of the hymn’s message that put everything into perspective. Then I woke up. đ
Since we’re waiting on TĂP to release new music today, I made another TĂP parody. It’s an attempt to tell the hypothetical story of Ryan just wanting to get through his wedding day so that he can get to sleep, but he can’t because people are still at his reception eating cake and making puns. I know we’ve already done a parody for “Guns for Hands”, but it was a Star Wars parody, so I figured it would be okay if I re-used the song for this parody.
Puns for Hands
I know what you think of your weapon (wea-pun)
When the sun shines at the dawn
And shows what you have done
I know where your mind has gone
And youâre caring âbout my marriage
How I will never be wed again
I know, I know oh ow, what that means, I know oh oh oh ow
That you all have puns
And you never see the cakeâs piece gone
And you all have hands,
To take it, to take it, don’t take it, take it, take it
I’m trying, I’m trying to sleep
I’m trying, I’m trying to sleep
But I can’t, but I can’t when you all have
Puns for hands yeah
I’m trying, I’m trying to sleep
I’m trying, I’m trying to sleep
But I can’t, but I can’t when you all have
Puns for hands yeah
Let’s take this a second at a time
Let’s make this hand short, a thin line
Together, let’s eat
Together, to the beat
But there’s hope out the window
âCause that’s where wind blows
Let’s go outside and all lift hands
But until then you’ll never understand
That you all have puns
And you never see the cakeâs piece gone
And you all have hands,
To take it, to take it, don’t take it, take it, take it
I’m trying, I’m trying to sleep
I’m trying, I’m trying to sleep
But I can’t, but I can’t when you all have
Puns for hands yeah
Youâve turned your hands to puns, trade in your thumbs for acquisition
I must forewarn you, of my disorder, or my condition
‘Cause when the sun sets, it upsets what’s left of my invested interest
Interested in wanting to linger, rest instead
The solution is, I see a whole room of these hungry kids
Food at each wrist, I simply tell them they should chew on this
Quickly index the rest of this pun-fused music, it’s
Obviously best for them to get their puns from A-list
I’m trying, I’m trying to sleep
I’m trying, I’m trying to sleep
But I can’t, but I can’t when you all have
Puns for hands
I’m trying, I’m trying to sleep
I’m trying, I’m trying to sleep
But I can’t, but I can’t when you all have
Puns for hands
And more things probably won’t happen until later today.
My favorite hymns of today are “A Mighty Fortress Is Our God” by Martin Luther of Germany, and “God’s Word Is Our Great Heritage” by Nikolai Frederik Severin Grundtvig of Denmark.
Martin Luther’s classic four-verse hymn is usually sung to the original tune that Martin Luther wrote for it. It is a paraphrase of Psalm 46, but written from the perspective that the psalm is talking about Jesus, His victorious conquest for us, and its impact in our lives and futures as Christians.
N.F.S. Grundtvig’s hymn is sometimes sung to that same tune, since the syllable structure is the same, and is only one verse long. It emphasizes the importance of God’s Word, Its consistency, and Its endurance.
I just realized that I haven’t actually answered the question for this thread, so here it goes:
A good book to me is one that allows me to be engaged with my imagination, which also requires a certain level of depth of content and display of wit. Looking back at my TOPHAT application and the five favorite books of mine that I put on there, the common threads that I can see among them are their depth and a demonstration of composition that the author understood the target audience and book purpose.
Plot and characters aren’t necessarily important to me, as some of my favorite books have neither, but accessibility to my frame of reference is paramount to me being able to engage with a book. This includes the vernacular that a book uses and the presentation of its information.
In our star-spangled kilts…
We feel so smart in our star-spangled striped kilts.
On some of the pages of this thread, clicking “refresh” on my computer allows me to see a different subset of the many memes that Masøn has posted. I’m not sure why they don’t all load at the same time.
Baseball is known as America’s pastime.
