Oh, I’m sorry. The good thing is that I recorded so many that you don’t have to use any that are confusing. (You definitely won’t use all of the reactions, so only keep the ones you think work best.) You can always e-mail me, Franklin, if you need any additional clarification station on any of those clips.

Alright, here is a batch of verses to consider (the cool thing with this song is that it’s fairly easy to take the best parts and swap out the parts that don’t work so well, so any fix is pretty easy):

Oh Aux Cable, Oh, Aux Cable, How lovely is this podcast
Oh how your advice does abound
    Wherever questions can be found
Oh Aux Cable, Oh, Aux Cable, How lovely is this podcast

Oh Aux Cable, Oh, Aux Cable, How we do miss this podcast
With lots of puns and inside jokes
Such fun for children and their folks
Oh Aux Cable, Oh, Aux Cable, How we do miss this podcast

Oh Aux Cable, Oh, Aux Cable, How internati’nal are you
One host doth hail from Canada
    The other from America
Oh Aux Cable, Oh, Aux Cable, How internati’nal are you

I’m not sure how well this will work for a commercial, but it may help with idea generation station.

Looking up “Oh, Christmas Tree” started me down a digression of German Christmas Carols. I’ll refocus and think of some more parody lyrics quickly…

That would be a good idea…we would probably need a “reference point” (such as a specific video clip of the song) to help us accomplish such a feat.

“Oh Aux Cable, Oh, Aux Cable, How do we miss this podcast…”

    Or

“Oh Aux Cable, Oh, Aux Cable, How lovely is this podcast…”

    Or something else…

I think we could have some singing, but I don’t know about an all-singing commercial. I guess it depends on what we come up with for a script.

I created a new Skype Profile under the name “Trube Fan”, with a new e-mail I just created of “TrubeFan16@outlook.com”. Now anyone from the Not-Forum can contact me that way.

I’d like to give it a go, partly because I want to see if I can get Skype to work and partly because I think it would add a different dynamic to the show. I don’t even care if it’s just a five minute session of “Hey, we’re actually doing this! Can’t wait to hear the finished podcast!” without recording much new material. That being said, I’m not sure how to make the Skype call happen unless Franklin sets it up.

If we do the Skype call tomorrow and it works but only two or three FACEs are able to be on, we’ll probably answer another one of Kristen’s questions or come up with a commercial for the Not-Forum or something simple like that. Maybe do some “rapid fire” questions or a live pun battle. The goal being that any new segment would be moderately short so that it doesn’t overshadow the other segments, but that it’s still something that’s still fun and enjoyable to listen to.

If Skype doesn’t work out, I think that taking time to collaborate on the Not-Forum concerning what we’re doing for a commercial would be productive alternative. I think that having a commercial of some kind would make the episode feel more like an Aux Cable episode than anything else new we can add at this point. Time zones do pose some difficulties, but I’d aim for 7pm Eastern/6pm Central/5pm Mountain/4pm Pacific for a good time to check the Not-Forum and see who’s on and what commercial ideas everyone has. Then casually check on the hour, every hour, for the next five hours for any updates (unless you see other people are on and you have time to interact and contribute; then jump into the discussion, refreshing frequently). That should give us what we need for this final production push while Franklin still has some time to edit.

(In this final week, we’re each recording our own answers to the question ““If money and logistics were no object, what would you get Ryan, Matthew, & Angie for Christmas, and why?” and sending the audio file to Franklin at AuxCableFans@gmail.com by Thursday. You’re welcome to send one in while you’re waiting for an entry to be posted.)

I’ll get my audio clips edited after I finish work this evening and try to send them to Franklin before tomorrow morning. That way he can listen to them, have an idea of what reactions he has to work with, and then plug them in as he receives everyone else’s responses. (I do presume that he will record his own response before he listens to my reactions, so that my audio doesn’t affect his answer, but it should work regardless.)

I may even record an intro to the segment calling the activity “Editor’s Choice” and explaining to the audience that all of the reactions were pre-recorded, in order for all of the audience to be “in on the joke”. We’ll see about that though; I’ll edit the clips I’ve already recorded first.

Thursday looks to be the earliest night this week that would work for a livestream. I’m guessing that in addition to word association, we’d discuss what we’d like to do for a commercial at that time if we haven’t figured that out by then.

Hopefully everyone else is able to submit their answers to “If money and logistics were no object, what would you get Ryan, Matthew, & Angie for Christmas, and why?” as soon as possible so Franklin has time to edit them. Since I’ll be finishing my audio tonight, aim to submit your recordings by Thursday if possible.

So here was my idea for a collaborative recording session that didn’t require a Skype call (I apologize in advance for the wordiness):

Everyone would answer the question: “If money and logistics were no object, what would you get Ryan, Matthew, & Angie for Christmas, and why?” [The answers could be for each individual or for the group.] After all the answers appeared on the show, I’d point out that even though we weren’t able to get them any of those things, we did make this podcast episode for them, and we hoped that would accept this gift. Then the outro would play.

I have sufficient audio recorded in addition to answering that question that it could sound like I asked each F.A.C.E. personally what they would give, and then I have a list of pre-recorded “reactions” that Franklin could plug in at this discretion to make it sound like I was reacting to the ideas live. I had a list of about 40 reactions (most of them non-committal or positive, but a few tame negative ones just in case) and I recorded pretty much everything yesterday, but I haven’t edited them yet. I’d send each reaction to Franklin as a separate file (except the one word reactions; those I could double up) so he could just drag and drop whatever reaction he wanted without having to edit them too much.

In my head, it would be funnier if other F.A.C.E.s (esp. Josiah) recorded reactions as well as answer the question too, so that it sounded like we were all in the same recording session hearing each others’ ideas live, but that would be a lot to ask everyone, so I’m not saying that needs to happen.

I picked this question specifically because it requires creativity and is completely subjective, so everyone could have a time to shine in the same spotlight. I can also post my list of “reactions” (at least, my script for it; I did record a few unscripted ones too) if you’re wanting to record some but want inspiration first.

An alternate way of doing this would be a YIAY parody where everyone would write their answers on the Not-Forum and I’d record myself reading them and actually reacting to them live (or Josiah or Masøn or someone else could do it instead of me), but that would not be as sentimental as if everyone recorded their own audio answers.

As you can tell, I’ve definitely been over-thinking how best to suggest & execute this idea, and I’m at the point now where I’m just posting this and seeking feedback as to whether this concept is worth doing and how best to do it. We can skip it altogether too, but I wanted to find another segment that we could all collaborate on without needing a Skype call, and this was what I came up with.

Let me know what you think about this concept suggestion.

I attempted to record audio of myself singing this one, since the meter doesn’t quite match up with the original, but it turns out that producing a r-e-c-o-r-d-i-n-g of singing that sounds good is more difficult than producing one of speaking that sounds good. Consequently, I’m just going to release this here and wait with the audio recording. Hopefully your imagination can make the following sound exquisite.

I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas parody:

I’m dreaming of a new Aux Cable
Just like the ones I used to know
    Where Matthew and Ryan
    Answer list’ners’ questions
    In almost every episode
Oh, I’m dreaming of a new Aux Cable
With every day that passes through
May you enjoy the classic episodes too
And may there be a new Aux Cable soon

I’m dreaming of a new Aux Cable
Just like the ones I used to know
    Where a conversation station
    Had puns and education
    Complete with unique inside jokes
Oh, I’m dreaming of a new Aux Cable
With every post that Angie makes
May your patrons continue to donate
And may there be a new Aux Cable today

I’m dreaming of a new Aux Cable
Just like the ones I used to know
    Where the F.A.C.E.s glisten
    As people listen
To hear advice from the show
Oh, I’m dreaming of a new Aux Cable
With every visit to the website
May your days be merry and bright
And may there be a new Aux Cable tonight

I want to hear in my ear a brand new episode
It is time for a new Aux Cable

    {The last two lines are the last two lines of the song re-sung, emotionally drawn out for emphasis.}
