I get the feeling that Brooke is like those HGTV shows where the people go all out in decorating for the holiday, preparing all year for a month or two of showcasing their work. 🙂

As long as you paid the $10 for the month to receive the shirt, it wouldn’t be dishonest. Dishonest would be pledging but not giving and yet still getting a shirt. Kevin understands that some people may do what you propose, but it’s worth the risk if some of those people stay on for at least a second month. Plus if you want that shirt, you’re probably a fan of his work, so the giving on Patreon is extra. Not to mention he gives some pretty nice perks, so it is difficult for someone to pledge and not come back if they like those extras. I’m sure that Kevin makes money on the shirt even if you only give $10, so it’s not like he’s losing out if you just pledge for the shirt. Sporting the shirt gives him free advertising, so he comes out ahead either way.

I personally wouldn’t do it, because the hassle to pledge would intrinsically motivate me to maintain my pledge for multiple months, costing me more in the long run, so I would just wait and buy the shirt when it reaches the store. Again, that’s just me. I try to look at more than just financial cost when it comes to these matters.

(I know I’m really, really late to this conversation, but the term Kristen meant to say instead of “theme song” was “national anthem”. However, if TOPHAT adopts an official song, we should totally call it a “theme song”.)

    Josiah’s message: Jeff you made an typo as well. “33398 7, 33278 12, 33048 13, 29710 1, 29551 1” not “313398 7, 33278 12, 33048 13, 29710 1, 29551 1.”

Sorry about that. It’s cool that God made us capable of decoding messages even with typos. 😀

BTW: I found your shortcut, Josiah, and it saves so much time. #TYSM

I think Franklin should be officially deemed the “Most Mysterious”, with his TOPHAT title incorporating that concept, should Franklin ever join TOPHAT.

I think I’d be a horse, because “Ross” in German means “steed”. (My last name isn’t German at all, but it’s fun that the language uses that word.)

    Yep, there is a typo. Franklin’s message reads “33123 4, 33122 4, 31944 3, 33123 4, 33136 10, 30900 22, 30900 17, 33122 12, 33122 4, 16902 7.” but it should read “33123 4, 33122 4, 31944 3, 33123 4, 33136 10, 30900 22, 30900 17, 33122 15, 33122 4, 16902 7.”

It took a ridiculous amount of time to find the words once I figured out the code, but I love a good payoff. I wish there was a little bit more rhyme and reason as to where Franklin sourced his word selection, but by the grace of God, I found them all, and it took me less than two hours.

The intended message (correcting for the typo) is as follows: “In a hole in the ground there lived a Hobbit.” What Franklin accidentally wrote was “In a hole in the ground there there a Hobbit.”

That was a pretty ingenious code, Franklin, because it wasn’t one you can Google. Instead, it took a good deal of sleuthing for me to figure it out. Well done. Here is my reply for you to figure out (and I simplified where to find the words, DScott, but you can find them the old fashioned way too if you wish):

    313398 7, 33278 12, 33048 13, 29710 1, 29551 1.

Happy decoding! Hopefully it takes you less than two hours of your time to decode this message. 😀

I’d just like to point out that this thread’s name, decoded, is “THE DECYPHER THREAD”. Props to anyone else who found the typo. Hopefully Franklin’s primary message isn’t misspelled. (I’m still working on decoding it.)

I am trubely honored. Manalive was the one who nominated me for membership, so his approval brings a certain closure to my application process. Now we can focus on other matters, such as inducting Rebekah or… other things. (I’m still getting a feel for what TOPHAT does besides inducting new members.)
