I don’t think their goal is to toy with you. I’ve written a fair amount of music before. If a song sounds “sad” and uses things that generally are considered sad its not because I would want ppl who hear it to be sad, it just reflects the way I felt.

I love key changes. They very rarely don’t seem cheesy to me. But in the song it sounds like the end, and then the key change happens and….its just… Beautiful in my opinion.

I’ve never dealt with social anxiety but I’m very introverted and had some chunks of my life were I didn’t really have any friends and awhile lot of loneliness/depression/worthlessness came out of it. I….cry so hard during dissapear and you will be found and words fail and waving through a window.
